Additional Information:

Dr. Hyams received his undergraduate degree from Vassar College and his M.D. from Columbia University. Surgical residencies at the University of California San Francisco and George Washington University Medical Center were followed by Surgical Oncology fellowships at the U.S. National Cancer Institute and the City of Hope.

Dr. Hyams directed the Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Cincinnati and was a member of the faculty of Allegheny University of the Health Sciences in Pittsburgh.

A long-time investigator with the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP), he served as the group’s Executive Medical Officer and Director of Medical Affairs. He later became National Director of Surgical Oncology and Clinical Research for Salick Healthcare, and subsequently Aptium Oncology, with responsibilities over a national network of comprehensive cancer centers.

During this time, Dr. Hyams was a member of the UK-based Oncology Gateway Team of AstraZeneca, an Anglo–Swedish multinational pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical company. The Gateway Team evaluated promising new pharmaceutical agents for clinical development

Currently, Dr. Hyams is Director of Desert Surgical Oncology based at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, California. He has had a clinical focus on breast cancer, melanoma, and soft tissue malignancies, including thyroid cancer. Advanced oncoplastic procedures, including breast reconstruction and optimized breast preservation, are an important part of his practice. He currently teaches these techniques to surgeons across the country as a faculty member of the School of Oncoplastic Surgery, and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

Dr. Hyams has functioned at the interface of academic medicine, community practice, pharmaceutical development, and molecular diagnostics. He is an internationally recognized author, lecturer, and investigator. He also serves as advisor and consultant for several molecular diagnostics companies, working to advance individualized biologically directed care.
